Hoe kijken jongeren die straattaal spreken zelf tegen hun taalgebruik aan? En wat doen ze als hun geheime woorden in bredere kring bekend worden? Onderzoeker Jiska Duurkoop zocht het antwoord bij Nederlandse straatbendes. Jongeren kwamen bij de onderzoeker thuis om erover te praten.

Gaat het Standaarnederlands kapot aan straat- en chattaal? “Er zijn jongeren die gemakkelijk kunnen ‘switchen’ van straattaal naar standaardtaal”, weet stadssocioloog Iliass El Hadioui. “Maar het grote probleem is dat lager opgeleide jongeren die ‘switch’ niet kunnen maken.” Dat is een gevaar voor onze standaardtaal én voor de kansen van die jongeren in onze maatschappij. Denkt u daar ook zo over?
